Making Roman Shades - Not As Easy As You Think

By John Berba

Making roman shades is not as easy as what you might have seen in magazines. In fact, you should fully understand the task that you will be undertaking before taking the plunge. It may be quite a surprise, but lots of people are not very handy and for them, making roman shades can be as hard as trying to reach the moon.

Creating your own roman shades cannot always guarantee that you will produce something good and stylish. Let's admit it, some people are not that artistic when it comes to art and to them a DIY project will always end up in a disaster. It can also be time consuming since you have to allot most of your time to thinking about the design. It is also another issue to put your design together. Making your own Roman Shades can help a lot when it comes to enhancing your artistic side. On the plus side, when you are making your own roman shades, you can control the design. You are the one that decides about the color and the theme. You will have total control of what your windows will look like. Also, you can save money since there is no need for those expensive custom made roman shades that cost a fortune.

Your primary focus when making roman shades is to get the right measurements. It is critical that you not only measure each window as they are seldom ever the same even though they might look the same to the untrained eye. You also have to be very precise when measuring the raw materials so that not one hem can be faulted. Keep in mind that for a roman shade to look expensive, you do not necessarily have to spend a lot of money on it.

Colors are very important when choosing the raw materials for your roman shades. Consider the whole design of your roman shades and then decide on the colors. Make sure that the colors are congruent to the design so that the design will not get off tracked. Choose colors that go with the theme of the whole room that the window is in. If the color looks awkward from the rest of the room, the roman shades will stand out alright, but not in a good way.

You also need some time to figure out what materials you are going to need and try to find out what the project will end up costing. It is always good to compare this price to the prices of ready made roman shades. the last thing that you want to do is spending countless hours of your precious time building your own roman shades when you could have had them done for less than what you spent buying the raw materials.

It also always pays to ask the opinion of experts before your take the plunge and dive head first in the roman shade making pool. Remember that these guys or gals have seen it all and could pass on valuable tips that should help you make an informed decision. Making roman shades can look like fun but one false cut or measurement can totally ruin the whole experience.
